Card edge connectors have evolved rapidly over the years and are today used even in the most sophisticated electronic devices. These connectors are much easier for upgrades and are generally very durable with smooth mating surface areas while supporting high data rates with excellent signal integrity.

High-Speed Card Edge Connectors

Amphenol's Gen 5 connectors provide 67 contacts on 0.50mm pitch. It occupies less board space, offers more connector height options, and supports higher data rates compared to the PCIe® Mini Card connector. It is designed for PCIe® Gen 5, making it suitable for tablets, laptops, and low-profile storage and server equipment. PCIe® M.2 connectors also support higher data rate transmission with both single and double-sided modules. PCIe® Gen 4 and Gen 5 connectors are capable of performing to industry-standard PCIe® 4.0 and 5.0. These 1.00 mm pitch, vertical and right-angle card edge connectors enable all generations of PCI Express® signaling in desktop PCs, workstations, and servers by supporting data rates up to 32GT/s per differential signal pair.

Amphenol's Cool Edge family of card edge products is known for its impeccable high-speed performance. The Cool Edge connectors are available in both 0.80mm and 1.00mm pitch sizes. The 1.00mm Cool Edge connectors bring high-speed PCIe® support with 16GT/s Gen 4 and 32GT/s Gen 5 capabilities, along with a slim housing design that reduces overall footprint, providing additional benefits over standard PCIe® CEM solutions. The 0.80mm Cool Edge connector provides a versatile solution addressing multiple standards like PCIe®, SAS, SATA, and offers multiple BTB configurations such as mezzanine, coplanar, and midplane/backplane.

Similarly, Slim Cool Edge connectors offer cost-competitive and high-density solutions for both power and signal applications.

Besides, we also provide Mini Cool Edge for new generation small form factor modules like Solid State Drive, Network Interface Card, and Add-In Card. Mini Cool Edge 0.60mm meets SFF TA-1002, Gen Z, EDSFF and OCP NIC 3.0 specifications.

The all-new 0.80mm pitch Double Density Cool Edge connectors and cable assemblies offer a compact design with 2 rows of contacts. This highly configurable single-piece connector can accommodate both high-speed and low-speed signal and also support power transfer.

In addition to Cool Edge, our Cool Stack connectors are also known for their high-speed capacities. They provide robust and reliable interconnection between two large boards with their screw locking feature in a low-profile 3mm design for coplanar applications.

Power Card Edge Connectors

Power Card Edge is a cost-effective solution useful for DC power output from embedded AC/DC power supplies or for power distribution between boards within an enclosure. The narrow connector body helps maximize airflow for increased cooling and is well-suited for use in 1U rack-mount servers or on power distribution boards inside 1U redundant power supply assemblies.

The High Power Card Edge (HPCE®) connector is a next-generation power card edge connector for demanding applications requiring high linear current density and low power loss. HPCE® incorporates an innovative power contact and a housing design that permits a more compact and lower profile package for demanding AC and DC power supply and/or add-in card applications. These are available in both Board-to-board and mezzanine configurations. The HPCE® Mezzanine incorporates a 20AMP/40AMP power contact, a ventilated housing design, and a PCB Bridge that permits a more compact and flexible stack height package for demanding DC power distribution applications.

eHPCE® connector offers a 15% increase in power density with the same footprint as classic HPCE® offering lower contact resistance and higher current carrying capacity.

Amphenol's proven 3000W EnergyEdge™ X-treme Card Edge series provides a 23% size reduction compared to eHPCE®, carrying 3000W in the same 43mm. This is the highest linear density available in the market today. EnergyEdge™ X-treme's revolutionary dual contact design pushes the boundaries of card edge technology beyond 3000W to power modern system architectures. The EnergyEdge™ product series features twice as many contact points allowing for a 25% improvement in linear current density when compared to existing card edge products.

Standard Card Edge Connectors

Amphenol's MXM high-density PCIe® solution that supports next-generation server system architectures also fall into our standard card edge range. With 0.50mm pitch and 314 contacts, the MXM 3.0 connector supports 16 lanes PCI Express® signal performance with smaller board space. Typical applications include notebook computers, blade, and standard rack-mount servers.

Apart from the PCIe® connectors, our standard card edge connectors also include MicroTCA (μTCA) variants that provide 170 contacts on a 0.75mm pitch and enable Advanced MC™ modules which can be plugged directly into a backplane. MicroTCA card edge connectors' conventional press-fit or surface mount assembly processes and connector designs require no costly hardware, resulting in low total applied cost.
