Zhaga Consortium is a worldwide association of lighting companies, focusing on creating standard interfaces for lighting modules from LED light engines, arrays, luminaires, and holders to connectors and sensors for wireless communication. The group also streamlines the designing, manufacturing, and supply of LED luminaires.

Zhaga develops specifications for lighting solutions to meet the trends in the industry like smart lighting and create inter-operable components so that they can be serviced, replaced, or upgraded with improvements in technology. These specifications are generally called “Books”.

Zhaga now releases its Book 20 specification. Book 20 specifies a smart interface between an indoor LED luminaire and a sensing/communication module. The field installable sensory modules are connected to a LED driver and control systems, which help in establishing a communication between the network components.

Amphenol’s standardized Book 20 FLM Series connectors allow modules to connect to the LED driver and control system, and for modules to be easily field serviced and replaced as necessary.  We have not only been a key contributor and an associate of the consortium, but the design of our FLM Series is now approved as the new Zhaga Book 20 standard. Zhaga Book 20 specifies 2 position connectors identified as Luminaire Extension Module Receptacles (LEX-MR) and Luminaire Plugs (LEX-LP), used for DALI-2 (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) applications.  DALI-2 is a smart interface protocol between indoor luminaires and sensors and communication modules.  With the smart lighting solutions and wireless communication offered by Zhaga Book 20, it can be used for multi-purposes from air quality testing to light level controlling and presence detection.

Apart from Book 20, Amphenol also provides the FLS Series products that are compliant with Zhaga Book 18 which creates a smart interface between outdoor luminaires and sensing/communication nodes. The FLS Receptacle is designed with 4 contacts for Power, DALI and Digital I/O, and mounts on a Luminaire, supporting smart lighting controls, sensor applications, and wireless communication.
